Final Fantasy XV Details About Astrals, DLC, More

In the final segment of E3 2016’s Square Enix Presents, Hajime Tabata answered 16 questions about Final Fantasy XV. He addressed many points, but here are some of the key details from the Q&A session.

The coliseum in Altissia, which we mentioned earlier, is not the sort of coliseum where players enter to battle monsters. Instead, it’s a mini-game where you can bet on monster fights. Other coliseum content could potentially be added after launch.

When it came to post-launch content and DLC, he couldn’t give many details. However, he said the Final Fantasy XV DLC plans are all but finalized. It will include new story content, alternate costumes, and other types of content he thinks players will be excited about.

Even though they have DLC planned, though, there’s no reason to worry about the amount of content in the game. Tabata estimated the main story alone will take 40-50 hours to complete. With all of the side quests and optional activities factored in, the full game could have as much as 200 hours worth of content.

A few of the questions also concerned Astrals, Final Fantasy XV’s summons. Astrals are a part of the story, because Noctis needs to make use of their power. As a result, there aren’t many Astrals in the game, but each has a unique personality and distinct traits.

These unique aspects affect how they’re used in battle. Some Astrals can only be summoned if Noctis is in danger, but there are other situations that will enable other Astrals to arrive. Leviathan can only be summoned near a body of water.

Their behavior varies, as well. For example, if Ramuh is summoned inside a dungeon, he throws his weapon at enemies.

Tabata also explained what determines the behavior of your party members in battle. Their equipment influences their actions, but their abilities also affect their AI. Some abilities will be used by them automatically. However, you can manually select certain party member abilities during battle. These have a cooldown meter, and should provide a greater sense of control over the party, despite Noctis being the sole playable character.

These are only a few of the questions Tabata answered, although some of the others edged into spoiler territory. What lingering questions do you still have about Final Fantasy XV?
