Square Enix hasn’t been shy with new Final Fantasy XV footage this E3. Among other things, they’ve shown the Venice-inspired city of Altissia, the Type-F modification that gives the Regalia the ability to fly, and a new battle mode that should appeal to players who want something slower-paced than Final Fantasy XV’s basic action combat.
First, let’s look at Altissia.
Altissia is the capital city of Accordo, which you’ll reach partway through the game. Although the gondolas used in Altissia can’t be controlled, Square Enix promises the city is filled with side quests and fun activities.
It even has a coliseum, although details about it and the player’s interactions with it weren’t explained.
Now let’s look at the Regalia Type-F.
Airships are traditional mode of transportation for the Final Fantasy series, and this time the party’s car will transform into a fully-controllable flying vehicle. Just like classic Final Fantasy games don’t give you the airship early on, the Type-F modification won’t be available until late in the game. There will be locations in the world you can only reach through flight.
As the video humorously demonstrates, if you land the Regalia poorly, the other characters will complain.
Finally, Final Fantasy XV will include an option called “Wait Mode.”
Wait Mode lets you pause the game to decide your next action in battle. You can use it to target enemies, decide which ability to use, aim magic, and more. A Wait Gauge will decrease while the game is paused, so you’ll still have a limited (though generous) time to act.
This mode will both add strategy to the combat and ease the action for players who prefer a slower place. This might be a compromise for players who prefer the turn-based and ATB systems of past Final Fantasy games.
According to Square Enix’s schedule, more Final Fantasy XV details will be revealed before the end of E3.
