Sonic Generations Officially Confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3

Sonic Generations, the next major game in the franchise, will release this holiday season on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as SEGA announced today. The game is introduced as part of Sonic’s birthday and will bring fans old and new back into the series.

Generations will allow both Sonics to be playable in either 2D or 3D and is inspired by the “three defining eras from 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog video game history.” Classic Sonic moves such as the Spin Dash and Spin Attack will be unique to the old fatty hedgehog while the newer Sonic has a Homing Attack and Sonic Boost.

Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power creates ‘time holes’ which pull him and his friends back through time. As a result he encounters some surprises from his past history including Classic Sonic, Sonic as he appeared in 1991. Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic must defeat this strange new enemy, save their friends, and find out who really is behind this diabolical deed.
