Steampunk Cybercrime Caper, The Swindle, Announced for PC

Developer Size Five Games announced via Rock, Paper, Shotgun their latest game, The Swindle, described as “a steampunk cybercrime caper” and the other as “Deus Ex meets Sonic the Hedgehog.”

The Swindle gives players the ability to infiltrate, hack, and rob high-security facilities through platforming and special gloves. The gloves can be upgraded and increase bonuses for typing speed, weapons, double-jump boosts, and telekinesis. The really cool part? Creator Dan Marshall said to RPS, “you shoot by putting your fingers together in a gun shape, playground style.”

How does The Swindle all come together you may ask? Here’s an explanation from the creator himself.

“At its core, it’s a platform game. Running, jumping, shooting, whipping up and down ladders, the usual Megadrive-era mechanics. Where it differs is in your approach to getting in-and-out of a building: you might use telekinesis to lift a rock off a manhole so you can break in through an underground tunnel and bypass all the security guards. Maybe you’ll hack a terminal that takes down the security cameras, allowing you to plant explosives by a weak wall, and go in guns blazing. Maybe you’ll hop into a guard tower and use the double jump ability to land on the facility’s roof, where you can smash through a skylight. That sort of thing.”

So far a PC version is set in stone although it is noted that “it’s still very early in development” so “when it’s done.” Most likely an Xbox 360 version as well “assuming they can resist putting vaginas in it” as their previous Xbox Live Indie Game “Privates” was never released on the Microsoft platform because well, you know.
