SB’s Gaming Memories: The Piano of Zelda (and Mario)

I’m sure that some of you have tried playing some of your favorite game songs on whatever instrument you have handy. For me, that instrument is a piano. And on some digital pianos, the left hand keys have chord letters over them, so when you pick a rhythm and press a note, it will play that particular note’s major chord.

So one day, I was before my digital piano picking out the Secret Samba from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. After a few renditions, I decided to try the chord sequence to the Zelda theme (Bb-Ab-F#-C#-B-Bb-C-F) on a number of different rhythms. You could say I had a blast jamming to Zelda.

A few days later, I was hanging out in the local Best Buy and I spotted a digital piano on display (where patrons were encouraged to play it) and it was the same brand as the one I owned (which unfortunately, is now broke), so it had the chord letters on the left hand side.

So after making sure no one else was making a move to play it, I settled in, cranked it up, and proceeded to serenade the store with “Zeldance” (Zelda set to a dance rhythm). I also did the overworld to Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) as an encore.

That concert made me wish even more for a new piano, so I can play those themes again–and maybe learn a new one.

Happy gaming,
SparklingBlue

I love playing zelda songs on the piano. I recently learned Twilight Princess's Hyrule Field, now my favorite song ever!

The main theme of Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) is pretty easy, too–at least in the bassline
