Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave DLC Wave 1 Impressions – Returning Relics

The sudden announcement of the expansion pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave was a pleasant surprise, especially since the game is already ridiculously lengthy. Though the three waves of content are decently spread out, the first one, featuring prototype weapons modeled after the Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, dropped almost immediately, setting the tone for what’s to come. Nintendo gave us a code for the expansion pass, so I thought it’d be worth checking each wave as it drops.

The four main protagonists each get new weapons along their routes. You obtain the familiar weapons by taking part in a brief quest that’s been added to the game’s main setting of Dagsion. I use the term “quest” loosely, because you essentially just go meet a person who gives it to you right away as each character. It adds a little more ceremony than just claiming the item like a bog-standard DLC item.

The first wave of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave DLC is a nice appetizer.

It’s cool that each character gets their own fitting Three Houses weapon, and I like that the game tries to fit them into the story instead of just dropping them into your inventory, as it helps them better tie into the shared lore of Three Houses and Fortune’s Weave. I’m curious whether these weapons will play any role in the stories set to be added next year for wave three of the expansion pass, since players will need them if they’re part of the same DLC.

While the first wave of DLC from Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave’s expansion pass isn’t a massive addition, using familiar weapons in a way that meshes with the game’s lore is a fun start. I’m looking forward to future waves that add more playable units and full story arcs, but using the Heroes’ Relics as an appetizer for the rest of the pass is a solid idea.
