Today I was going to cover two of the remaining conferences in the day, Capcom and Activision. However, things did not go quite as planned with Capcom that forced me to reconsider covering third-party publishers conferences in the future.
Why?
I came to the conference expecting Capcom to showcase their fall lineup as well as spotlight titles such as Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, and maybe throw in a few surprise game announcements such as a sequel to Dead Rising.
I was sorely mistaken.
From the minute the conference was scheduled to start, it didn’t start. The stream wasn’t up and it was evident that there were delays. Delays that indicated to me once inside that this wasn’t an actual press conference but rather an panel-like forum. And what was the topic for Capcom’s Press Conference? Why none other than a discussion on the newly announced Lost Planet The Movie!
It wasn’t at all bad though, David Hayter was one of the panelists and we learn that he is fluent in Japanese so he could communicate and joke with the president of Capcom, Keji Infuane during said discussion. Hayter will be penning the screenplay for Lost Planet The Movie which will be produced through Warner Bros. studios. The movie is predicting a 2011 release.
Infuane goes on to mention that Lost Planet is a big franchise for Capcom and hints at more games in the future. Initially, Infuane wanted Lost Planet to be like a Hollywood movie when he initially started development on the game. And the general vision for Capcom is to create games with a movie-making mindset in place. Perhaps we will see more movies based off Capcom games in the future.
Yep, that was it.
