Soul Calibur IV and Darth Vader

Yes, we all know that Darth Vader is exclusive to the PS3 with Yoda exclusive to the Xbox 360. Darth Vader is one of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars franchise, and so that’s why they wanted to bring in Darth Vader to the Soul Calibur franchise.

It’s not that easy bringing in a character from a movie franchise in which he barely has any light saber action fights. So they tried the trial-and-error method which everyone’s used for Geometry and went with that and if it felt right.

If Darth Vader wasn’t done just well enough, no one would like him and it would be an utter failing moment in the series. It might ruin Soul Calibur, so the team worked really hard to make him work and to get it just right. What else was hard? The force.

Yes, the Force was incredibly difficult, because you could have the Force and never lose if too powerfull, or it would suck if not done correctly. Well it was hard what to do with the Force, so here’s what they did:

Ultimately, we created a Force gauge to put a limit on using the power. However, we felt players would be frustrated if they couldn’t use the Force on an empty gauge, so we are allowing them to use the Force but it will be counted as a penalty against their character. I think it was good compromise and can be used as a tactic.

So the team really feels this how Darth Vader should play in the Soul Calibur series and hopefully consumers will too when they pick up the game July 29th! Creating your own character and owning Darth Vader might be pleasing to some, if Darth Vader is hard enough to be considered a challenge.
