About the Game
For those people who seemingly have been locked away in a cave and haven’t seen anything about the latest Bomberman adventure. It brings back the classic ways of Bomberman like you would expect from the good old days. It doesn’t try to do anything new which is all you can really ask for in a Bomberman title. It’s basically the same game, Bomberman Live, that was released on the Xbox Live Arcade not too long ago but with a few additions like the extra downloadable content.
What I Played
This past weekend was, lode and beholds, the New York Comic Con. I got to play a few games of Bomberman Ultra. The game is pretty much finished and nothing really too outrageous needs to be done in the development side of things. It’s still the classic Bomberman we all remember but this time it feels right releasing on the Playstation 3. You get some great additions to the gameplay like character customization with over 15,000 possible combinations, it’s limitless.
Staff from Hudson Entertainment was there to help guide anyone through the game that was either overwhelmed by what was going on on-screen or who had never played a Bomberman game in their life. Which is quite sad when you think about, but there’s always room for forgiveness by playing Bomberman Ultra. The pick up and play controls is what the biggest draw was. Kids and even adults of all ages were able to just pick up the sixaxis and join in on the battle. Levels were timed to 5 minute matches and I just couldn’t get away from feeling like I was back in the 90s.
Finally, Bomberman Ultra makes for a great party game that anyone can jump in and play. It’s pick up and play controls make it fun and easy to join in the matches. The character customization is a real plus when it comes to replayability and longevity to the game. I can see it being one of the highlights of the PSN. This version of Bomberman Ultra also contains all the extra downloadable content that was originally made available on the XBLA.
There isn’t much else to say about the game as like I said earlier, that it’s pretty much finished and not much needs to be done. It’s more along the lines of polish and maybe more testing to find any left over bugs or glitches. Overall, Bomberman Ultra should dig deep into those nostalgia moments such as I had while playing the game. The game will be made available on the Playstation Network at the end of this month.
