Starbreeze’s top secret project has finally been outed by its publisher EA and its a FPS reboot to the original cyberpunk top-down tactics game, Syndicate.
The setting sees a 2069 cyberpunk dystopian America where megacorporations are warring for control of the country. The new Syndicate takes advantage of classic weaponry and environments from the original. The four player co-op mode will feature missions from Bullfrog’s original title.
Players assume the role of Eurocorp prototype cyborg Miles Kilo to “embark on an epic action adventure full of corruption and revenge.” Miles has the ability via an implanted ‘DART 6’ bio-chip to engage in bullet time and allows him to “breach the digital world” through “a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics” in order to tackle enemies.
“Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original,” stated EA Partners excecutive producer Jeff Gamon. “I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic.”
The original Syndicate released back in 1993 under Peter Molyneux’s former studio Bullfrog and was followed by an expansion pack, American Revolt. The sequel in 1996 brought Syndicate for the first time to 3D with fully destructible buildings, however the series went dark after that.
The new Syndicate releases “early 2012” for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
