E3 2012: The Last of Us Gameplay Welcomed by Thunderous Applause

When the The Last of Us gameplay demo concluded, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, site of Sony’s E3 press conference, was filled with thunderous applause and cheers from many of those who sat in the audience.

The demo was not presented with any introduction or post demo explanation. The driver of the demo simply walked off stage with a swagger when the jaw-dropping demo concluded.

The Last of Us started with a slow but solid pace that showed off some of the game’s environment. Lush green plants covered buildings of a once sprawling city, and water from an unknown source flooded the roads. The environment itself set the tone for the upcoming title from Naughty Dog, the creators of the Jax and Dexter series, and most recently, the Uncharted series.

Things quickly went from peaceful to tense and brutal as the demo crescendoed. The protagonist dispatched enemy human survivors in hard hitting and brutal combat that pulled a huge response from the audience.

The demo showcased some of the stealth options and survival focused gameplay Naughty Dog is bringing into to the table with The Last of Us.

The Last of Us is looking incredible so far, and yet the game becomes more mysterious as more of it is revealed.

Check out the seven minutes of gameplay that was demoed during Sony’s E3 press conference.
