The Molasses Flood has released the warm and flowing soundtrack for their rogue-lite title, The Flame in the Flood. Composed by alt-American musician Chuck Ragan, the game’s soundtrack is now available for purchase from Ten Four Records. As an avid outdoorsman, Ragan is described as the perfect accompaniment for the game’s post-societal American tone. Ragan commented on the soundtrack’s atypical writing process:
“I spent quite a lot of time running out to the river, setting up camp to build a fire, write, fish, write more and repeat. I also wanted to invite and include friends to be a part of it, playing, writing or singing anything they wanted to add. Cory Brannan, Jon Snodgrass, Adam Faucett and of course The Camaraderie are some of the very important collaborations on this recording that made the soundtrack it what it is.”
The Flame in the Flood itself is a rogue-lite game, where the goal is to survive rapids, outwit dangerous creatures, and forage for supplies with your canine companion. Ragan spoke about the soundtrack, and its relation to the game:
“The Flame in the Flood is a collection of songs of survival. Written from the perspective of a drifter, nomad and explorer, The Flame in the Flood will take you on a journey down that river in search of a safe haven. I feel so blessed to not only be a part of such a strong and active music community but to be able to share the stage, write with and learn from the people that I work with is such a healthy and revitalizing way to work.”
The Flame in the Flood is now available for PC and Mac through Steam Early Access, and will be coming to the Xbox One at a currently unknown date. For more information, check out the game’s Steam page here.
