Microsoft Unveils Xbox One S and Project Scorpio

Over the past few months, there have been plenty of rumors about new, upgraded Xbox One models. The latest rumors claimed there would be two different models, and now it has been confirmed.

Microsoft kicked off its E3 2016 press conference by unveiling the Xbox One S.

The Xbox One S is a slim model of the Xbox One. In addition to its smaller size, it has a redesigned controller, a 2 TB internal hard drive, and support for 4K video.

The Xbox One S will be available in August at a starting price of $299. Therefore, although it is an upgraded version of the console, it doesn’t have a big price increase.

However, this wasn’t the only new Xbox One model announced. To close out the show in a similar fashion, Microsoft ended its press conference with a look at the new Project Scorpio.

While the full details about Project Scorpio haven’t been revealed yet, Microsoft promised it would be “the most powerful console ever built.” It will support 4K gaming and be ready for VR, and it has 6 teraflops of power. This matches the basic rumors about Project Scorpio seen over the past few weeks.

Scorpio did not receive a release date yet, but is expected during the holiday 2017 season.

Both the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio are considered a part of the Xbox One family. That means that all Xbox One games will be playable on all three console models, rather than, for example, having Scorpio-exclusive titles.

At this point, it’s unclear if Project Scorpio should be considered part of a new console generation or just a step up from the Xbox One. Its price has yet to be revealed, but will likely cost more than the basic and slim models.

What do you think of the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio? Are you planning to buy one of the new Xbox One models?
