Top 5 Characters That NEED to Be in Hero Academia: One’s Justice

In this humble editor’s opinion, My Hero Academia is one of the best shonen anime in years. The announcement of One’s Justice, a Clash of Ninja-esque 3D fighter based on Academia, got me pretty excited to say the least. With the announcement of three new characters (Tokoyami, Jiro, and Kirishima), I figured it was about time I make a list of the five characters that desperately need to be in the game.

Though there are manga-only characters on the list, there are no spoilers for anything past the most recent episode of the anime.

5.) Minoru Mineta (Grape Juice)

It was inevitable that the ridiculously pervy grape-boy himself would be on the list, but before you close the tab, it’s as a gag character. Regardless of how you feel about Mineta’s personality, his Quirk is one of the weirder and more moveset-friendly powers in the show. Using his bouncy/sticky head balls, Mineta might actually be a viable long-range fighter.

Using his (head)balls, Mineta could be a trap-based fighter. Each orb, when stepped on by a foe, would paralyze them in place due to their sticky texture. Mineta could feverishly throw more orbs, rocks, or nearby debris at them as projectiles, showcasing his cowardly nature. For his ultimate move, Mineta could do his “Grape Rush”, bombarding his enemy with balls while fearfully running past them. It’s a goofy idea, but he’s a goofy character.

4.) Mei Hatsume

While her base Quirk (the ability to zoom into things with her eyes) isn’t necessarily suited for battle, Mei’s wacky inventions make her an easy pick for One’s Justice. As seen in the Sports Festival arc of Academia, Mei has plenty of equipment that can be used to create a character that focuses on mid-range combat and high mobility/speed.

Mei could use her hover soles and jetpack to zip around the arena, avoiding enemy attacks until an opportunity presents itself. To further the gap in speed between Mei and her opponents, she could use her High Density Weights (worn by the teachers in the final exams arc) to decrease her opponent’s speed. Using her Power Suit, Mei could throw out some powerful punches and kicks to trip-up her stat-decreased foe. Her ultimate move could have her don the “Adorable Baby” robot suit to dole out a harsh melee combo, followed by a massive explosion as the suit combusts. Using inventions instead of a Quirk would make Mei stand out from the rest of the roster, especially since the majority of the roster uses crazy powers as their movesets.

3.) Mirio Togata (Lemillion)

Though Mirio hasn’t appeared in the anime yet, I can say with confidence that anime-watchers will find him to be one of the best characters in the entire series. Mirio’s Quirk lets him phase through or into things. Even without considering his Quirk, Mirio is both incredibly strong and incredibly fast. Combining these skills makes Mirio a perfect close-range fighter who can easily avoid taking damage through the use of his Quirk.

Holding down one button could make Mirio permeate, making every enemy attack fly straight through him. This would naturally be tethered to a Quirk bar which, when depleted, would slow Mirio down and make him unable to use his Quirk until it’s replenished. Mirio could also close gaps between himself and his opponent by phasing into the ground and undoing his quirk, which would shoot him out of the ground at high speeds. For his ultimate move, Mirio could phase through his opponent, wailing on them from every angle while they fruitlessly try to hit him. The attack ends with Mirio phasing underneath his opponent, showing his face, then rocketing upwards to decimate his foe with a huge punch. And with a face like Mirio’s, who could possibly turn his inclusion down?

2.) Oguro (Knuckleduster)

You’d be forgiven for not recognizing Knuckleduster, since he technically isn’t from My Hero Academia. No, Knuckleduster is from the spin-off manga Vigilante – Boku no Hero Academia: Illegals, a series about heroic individuals who aren’t legally heroes. By operating outside the law, these vigilantes can fight crime in their own way. Knuckleduster is just a tough guy who hates evil, and battles villains despite being Quirkless. He has a history with Stain, and even Eraserhead, who respects Knuckleduster to a certain degree, saying that pro heroes won’t pursue him and his team so long as they don’t abuse their powers.

Instead of a Quirk, Knuckleduster is really good at hitting people like a ton of bricks. Using his brass knuckles, Knuckleduster would be a close-range heavy fighter who deals a ton of damage with every hit. His ultimate attack could have him do a single huge punch, like in his fight against  Stendhal. It’s a pretty straightforward moveset compared to the rest of the roster, but this simplicity would make Knuckleduster a great character for beginners or up-close purists. Think Street Fighter’s Ryu, but even cooler (because he’s a vigilante).

1.) Tamaki (Suneater)

Another manga-only character at the moment, Tamaki is one of the Big 3 of U.A. alongside Mirio and Nejire. Shy and often anxious, Tamaki serves as a strong contrast to the loud and bubbly other two members of the Big 3. Tamaki has the most moveset potential out of any character from My Hero Academia, purely because of how creative his Quirk is. Tamaki can manifest the physical properties of anything he’s recently eaten (as long as it’s still in his digestive system). If Tamaki eats chicken, he can spawn a talon. If he eats octopus, he can spawn tentacles. It’s difficult to know where to begin when planning out a moveset for a character with such endless potential.

Making Tamaki a mid-range fighter would let One’s Justice use his Quirk’s full potential, as he could have attacks that hit from anywhere and everywhere. Tamaki could block using his own oyster shell, or smack foes from far away with his tentacles. His talons could be used as a close-range slash, while his plants could be used to grab or bind enemies. Tamaki’s ultimate attack could have him take on the properties of multiple foods, alternating between them with each hit in a long combo. The attack would culminate into an enormous hit where Tamaki uses every food-property at once, sending his foe flying.

And that’s who I think should be in My Hero Academia: One’s Justice. Do you agree, or is there someone you want to see more? Leave a comment, and remember, PLUS ULTRA!
