Whether you’re sending generals to find the lost children of your vassals or marrying off your daughter, nobody lives the tough life like King Dad in Yes, Your Grace.
One of the most interesting things about modern-day game development is that the gap between player and developer has become so small that experimental games are no longer uncommon. Yes, Your Grace combines point & click adventure elements into a game about running a kingdom and making important, lasting choices. Some choices have unavoidable consequences, this is because while the primary function of the game is to have you make decisions about your kingdom, there is a narrative that goes along with those decisions.
That’s actually where Yes, Your Grace looks to shine. While this might seem like just the latter half of Fable 3, as its own game, it becomes rather intriguing. Balancing finances as well as supplies to feed your villages, ensuring you have generals to take care of the riff-raff, and dealing with your “allies” to ensure the safety of your kingdom.Taking the role of the king of Grevno, capital of Davern, you also have a family that needs tending to as well. A king with no sons and three daughters, all there to marry off and seal alliances, no doubt. These aren’t just afterthoughts, they’re the game proper.
Intriguing narratively, yes, but the teams at Brave at Night and No More Robots have given Yes, Your Grace a stunning art style. Beautiful set pieces in pixel art that are so surprisingly intricate. I’m a bit of a sucker for pixel art anyway, but these are some truly striking pieces. And while the character art is nothing to write home about, the game itself is consistent in its style and makes for a very good looking experience through and through.
While the preview given to me was a short one, I did manage several playthroughs to see what would change each time. Unfortunately, this early into the game not much changes throughout playthroughs. The version I was given only has you play through maybe the first act and it ends on a cliffhanger. So while the choices seemed superficial in the grand scheme of things, I felt like I knew where things were leading. I’m very anxious for the release to find out where the story actually goes.
Yes, Your Grace plans on releasing in early 2020 and you can wishlist on Steam right now.
