Today, developer Clockwork Labs announced the upcoming closed alpha release for their community sandbox MMORPG BitCraft. The alpha, revealed through a new trailer, will be held in early 2024. The trailer focuses on the game’s atmosphere and also serves to introduce its music, which will be handled by composer Austin Wintory and composer and vocalist Rachel Hardy.
First announced two years ago, BitCraft begins in the Age of Automata and allows players to either play alone or work with other players. The idea is that the world starts out with an untouched wilderness, where players will hunt, craft, explore, and more to create their own civilizations. Its emphasis is on player freedom, with players able to choose the sort of path they want to follow rather than being bound to particular roles.
BitCraft runs on a sever-side game engine called SpacetimeDB intended to help make such an ambitious game manageable. It is coming first to PC.
