Best of 2024 Awards – Most Anticipated Game

As 2024 draws to a close, MonsterVine is thrilled to present its annual Best of 2024 Awards, celebrating the standout games, trends, and moments of the year. This year has been filled with innovative titles and beloved franchises pushing boundaries, but the excitement for what’s coming next is palpable.

Our Most Anticipated award goes to Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii—a title that has fans buzzing about its wacky charm, iconic characters, and adventurous new setting. Here’s what our writers have to say about this upcoming gem.

Most Anticipated – Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

Samantha: Ever since I discovered it a few years ago with Yakuza 0, the Like a Dragon series has never let me down. I was skeptical of the direction of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii when it was announced, but I have enough faith in RGG Studio that I’m excited for it anyway. I still need to finish Infinite Wealth, but here’s hoping I’ll be done in time to hit the high seas with Majima when this new game launches!

Spencer: I’m a simple man when it comes to Yakuza – I see a Like a Dragon game, I play it, and I love it. Combine Majima’s wacky antics with a pirate theme and the excellent setting of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and you’ve got a title that piques my interest in essentially every way. I can’t wait to get my hands on Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and I thankfully won’t have to wait too much longer.

James: Despite releasing a new entry nearly every year, I’m always looking forward to the next Like a Dragon game. Each entry continues to be an absolute delight filled with surprises and this wacky take on a pirate adventure feels like a great idea. Add beloved freak Majima to the mix and it sounds like an absolute blast.

Frank: More Majima? More Hawaii? More Yakuza?  Sign me up!  I am always over the moon to see what this studio will put out and this is no exception, especially as the main franchise focus shifts to the RPG mechanics it is great to see how they pay tribute to the old, 3D beat em up style gameplay the series grew on.
