Throughline Games, developers of Forgotton Anne, have released a new trailer showcasing their latest hand-drawn narrative adventure, Forgotlings. This standalone adventure taking place in the World of the Forgotton has players taking on the role of Fig, a charismatic posing doll in a fractured world. Forgotlings are apparently sentient lost objects looking to rediscover their purpose as a Beast threatens to destroy their world. After a successful Kickstarter, raising 105,141, Forgotlings will see a release on June 12th, 2025. Let’s look at what we can expect from this narrative-driven, cinematic, metroidvania.
Players of Forgotton Anne will remember the Forgotlings playing a fairly integral role in the game’s story. The critically acclaimed adventure game saw success on release in 2018, Forgotton Anne‘s developers Throughline Games took to Kickstarter to fund their follow-up title in 2023. Forgotlings looks to take on a more cinematic and action-centric role in the greater World of the Forgotton. Along with the option to choose stealthy or head-on gameplay, Forgotlings includes an in-game board game, hand-drawn animation and environments, and full voice acting. The Forgotlings is truly shaping up to be a lovely follow-up to Forgotton Anne. Let’s take a look at what else is going on in Forgotlings:

Forgotlings looks like an incredible follow-up to a game that Sam called, “a beautiful and memorable world full of charming characters.” in her Forgotton Anne review where she gave it a 4.5/5. Forgotton Anne was a beautiful narrative-driven experience and the creative director of Forgotlings thinks it’s timely now more than ever. Alfred Nguyen, Creative Director at Throughline Games had this to say about Forgotlings:
In a world increasingly divided, Forgotlings invites players to escape into the Forgotten Lands—where their choices shape the fate of a fractured society. This is a story of belonging, of tribal factions at odds, and of finding purpose in a time of uncertainty. While we didn’t set out to make a timely allegory, the themes of Forgotlings resonate now more than ever.
Forgotlings has been in development for 5 years but it finally releases on Steam on June 12th, 2025. You can wishlist the game on Forgotlings Steam page. A demo is also available on the game’s Steam page.
