Tokyo-based Don Yasa Crew and Kakehashi Games are bringing the high-energy, hip-hop-infused biopunk action game Sonokuni to PC via Steam on March 24, 2025, with a Nintendo Switch version launching on March 31.

To mark the occasion, the developers have released a new launch trailer, giving players a fresh look at the game’s fast-paced combat, cybernetic aesthetic, and adrenaline-pumping soundtrack.

A High-Speed Biopunk Samurai Tale

In Sonokuni, players step into the shoes of Takeru, a deadly lone assassin on a mission to take down a surreal, technologically advanced superpower. Her journey is a brutal struggle between violence and morality, as she fights to protect her people from oppression.

The game’s story and world draw inspiration from Japanese mythology, blending it with a biopunk, cyber-samurai aesthetic and an explosive hip-hop soundtrack produced by Don Yasa Crew themselves.

Key Features of Sonokuni

  • Hyper-Fast Combat – Slash, dash, and destroy enemies with precision-based swordplay and stylish action.
  • Biopunk Japan – A futuristic world influenced by Japanese mythology, blending ancient themes with advanced biotechnology and cybernetic warfare.
  • A Unique Hip-Hop Soundtrack – Featuring original beats and tracks from Don Yasa Crew, every moment of combat is punctuated by a hard-hitting score.
  • PC & Switch Release Dates – Play on PC (Steam) starting March 24, with the Nintendo Switch version launching a week later on March 31.
