Critically Acclaimed American Arcadia Comes to Consoles This May

American Arcadia, developed by Out of the Blue Games, was released to critical acclaim a few years back, and now Raw Fury has decided to bring the 2.5D platformer to consoles. Using mixed perspectives of 2D platforming and 3D first-person, American Arcadia stands out with a vibrant art style, retro futuristic aesthetic, and veteran voice talent. Let’s take a look.

The trailer has the protagonists of American Arcadia announcing the console availability in character, which is very cute. The two protagonists, Trevor and Angela, are voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth) and Krizia Bajos (Spider-Man 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6). Excitedly, the console release is only a month away, which is kind of how these things should go. While it’s nice to plan things out, I definitely prefer smaller and surprising releases over long, drawn-out ones.

Out of the Blue Games

Out of the Blue Games started the decade by releasing a very cool narrative first-person adventure game about a woman searching the 1930s South Pacific for her husband in Call of the Sea. Throughout the game, you’re following the path of your husband’s expedition further into an island following the unearthing of some mysterious artifacts. Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Rosewater) voices Norah in Call of the Sea and appears in American Arcadia as a fairly prominent character. I played through Call of the Sea a few years back, and it’s aces, I recommend checking it out if you’re good with the slow burn narrative and light puzzles while waiting for American Arcadia to release.

Up on the horizon, Out of the Blue Games is working on a “narrative political RPG” titled The Vigilante Diaries. I’m just going to directly quote the Steam page here because I think they do an excellent job of making sound both thrilling and goofy.

Having served two tours of duty in Vietnam , an average guy returns home to find a city now ravaged by crime, corruption, and social inequality. In a situation such as this, there’s only one way out for a lonely, desperate man…

…to take justice into his own hands.

In The Vigilante Diaries, players slip into the role of a masked vigilante, defining not only his appearance, but his rules, methods, and red lines: Will you be a chivalrous crimefighter or a fearsome and ruthless avenger? Will you prioritize protecting the innocent or will your crusade for justice come before everything and everyone? It’s up to you to decide.

Best of all, a demo is currently available on The Vigilante Diaries Steam Page. And if the game sounds at all interesting to you, make sure you wishlist it.

Right, what we’re here for, American Arcadia. It’s coming to consoles, you know. And if you’ve never played it before, here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Two Experiences in One Game – Control two different characters in two different worlds with unique gameplay. Play as Trevor to flee Arcadia in a 2.5D puzzle-platformer all while exploring and hacking in first person to help him as Angela. Work together to defeat the powerful corporation that is trying to take them down.
  • Escape a ’70s Televised Utopia – Experience a gripping new adventure crafted with all the trademark polish, artistry and mystery from the studio behind the award-winning Call of the Sea. Discover a rich story and unforgettable characters set in the world’s most dangerous reality TV show and filled with twists, turns and lies at every turn.
  • Vibrant Characters & Performances – The incomparable voice talents of Yuri Lowenthal (Marvel’s Spider-Man, Prince of Persia, Call of the Sea), Krizia Bajos (Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends, Star Trek: Resurgence) and Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Starfield, Call of the Sea) breathe life into the world and characters of American Arcadia.

American Arcadia is already out on PC via Steam if that’s your platform of choice. However, if you’re a console creep like me, you’re going to have to wait until May 15th before American Arcadia hits PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Keep an eye out on the front page of MonsterVine for more news from Out of the Blue Games, Raw Fury, and all great games on the horizon.
