In a somewhat expected but very welcome announcement, Square-Enix announced Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster during today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. Set in the world of Luxendarc, a Great Chasm emerges apropos of nothing. Players will join Agnès, Tiz, Ringabel, and Edea on their quest to understand the Great Chasm and restore light to the crystals. Let’s take a look.
Truly, this looks wonderful. I always thought Bravely Default looked good, and the gameplay has always been a winner for me. Announced during the Nintendo Direct, we only have confirmation that this will be a release title for the new console with no other consoles being advertised. Bravely Default initially wowed fans and critics alike with its novel gameplay systems. Allowing the player to bank turns with the default system, by simply defaulting and not performing an action for that turn, players could then use those banked turns by braving and executing multiple actions at once. It also featured a job system, which is a insta-buy right out the gate for a lot of RPG fans.
Being criticized for its story more than anything, Bravely Default featured a story that was somewhat cyclical. Requiring players to replay certain parts of the story was a big turn-off for some. But as of now it still sits at 85 on Metacritic and 85 on OpenCritic, which really speaks to the quality of the game. Titled Bravely Default: Flying Fairy in Japan and Bravely Default: Where The Fairy Flies in other territories, the remaster is aiming to unify the naming under a single title. This is appreciated. Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, it’s undoubtedly a good thing to see these games translated to a single-screen system. What’s new with Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster?
BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster Key Features

The screenshots and the trailer make it look gorgeous. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 which means it will be available on June 5th, 2025.
