Described as an 80s vibe creature collector turn-based RPG, Cassette Beasts released in 2023 to critical success, seeing high critic and player scores, overwhelmingly positive on Steam, and receiving a lot of post-game support. Yesterday, they dropped another big post-release update, nearly two years after the game’s initial release, along with a new DLC pack.
Set in a bright and colorful open world, Cassette Beasts has an interesting spin on creature collectors by using retro cassette tapes to transform characters into monsters. At the end of last year, developer Bytten Studio released their 1.7 update, adding a series of randomized combat encounters and releasing their full multiplayer update earlier in the year. The multiplayer update allows you to team up with 8 players online, all visible in your world as you travel. You can battle 1v1 with friends, trade tapes with each other, and team up for raid battles. Cassette Beasts’ release was the full package, and it’s only gotten better since then.
The 1.8 ‘Sunshine Update’ provides a new storyline for an NPC named Sunny, allowing those who have completed the main story of Cassette Beasts to explore a new story in this brand new update.
Cassette Beasts 1.8 ‘Sunshine Update’ Key Features
- Sunny days are upon us! – Beloved NPC, Sunny, will now have a new storyline! Following the main story, players will have the opportunity to partner with Sunny for the first time as she embarks on a new questline to uncover details about her past as one of New Wirral’s peculiar Landkeepers.
- New Monsters! – Sunny’s questline introduces a few new monsters, including her signature tape form, Pawper! This large beast-type creature resembles a bear costume… but is there a deeper mystery under its skin? Best not to think about it too long…. Pawper’s signature move, “Bear Hug,” transfers negative status effects to the target, making them quite the tactical partner. (There are two other monsters but…we’ll let you find them in game)
- Soar through the air with brand new wings! – This update allows you to personalize your gliding wings after recording specific monsters. If you’re looking for even more wing options to enhance your adventures, the new premium Wings Pack DLC offers an array of themed wings to further customize your character.
Again, Bytten Studio provides a hefty update alongside a DLC release. We should also take a look at what the DLC provides:
Cassette Beasts: Wings Pack DLC

Sadly, beyond those words, there are no descriptions, but I think you can get an idea just from the names. Now is a great time to get into Cassette Beasts if you haven’t yet, as the game is currently on sale on PC via Steam for half off. And if you’re interested in the Wings Pack DLC it’s part of both the New Wirral Edition bundle as well as the Complete Edition bundle, both of which are currently on sale as well. If Steam isn’t your bag Cassette Beasts is currently 40% off on the Nintendo eShop as well as available on Xbox Game Pass.
Likewise, earlier this year, Cassette Beasts was released for mobile devices, showing up on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. Cassette Beasts mobile version has a demo with the full game purchase starting at $5.99 for Android and $6.99 for iOS. Along with the mobile release are two DLC packs, the Cosplay Pack DLC ($0.99 on both iOS and Android) and the Pier of the Unknown DLC ($2.99 on both iOS and Android). Unfortunately, the mobile version does not maintain parity with the PC and console versions and does not yet include the multiplayer update.
As always stay tuned for more updates on Cassette Beasts and other Raw Fury titles here on MonsterVine.
