A sequel to the 2019 customizable mech action title Daemon X Machina was announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 direct. Marketed as taking the franchise in a dramatic new direction, you’ll be joining the Reclaimers in their fight against the Axiom. Join humanity in their fight for liberation in Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion.
Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, if anything, looks significantly better graphically than the original. The trailer shows the action-packed gameplay from the original and shows off quite a few customizable arsenals. Titanic Scion carries over much from the original game including salvaging defeated enemies and online co-op to fight titanic bosses. Returning to work on the series are Kenichiro Tsukuda (Armored Core 2, Armored Core 3) and Shoji Kawamori (Macross, The Vision of Escaflowne), who are big names, and it’s very nice to see talent being retained at a studio-level.
The original title, Daemon X Machina, was not received particularly well. With a mere 69 on MetaCritic and a 70 on OpenCritic, it appeared as though critics enjoyed the game but struggled to wow anyone. Our own Tom Ravencroft gave Daemon X Machina a 4/5, which is a pretty good score. But while it did well with MonsterVine, it struggled to find a foothold in other outlets. Determined to find an audience, the Daemon X Machina sequel is a welcome announcement, especially considering this isn’t a Switch 2 exclusive.
