The Sinking City Remastered Surprise Launches on PC and Consoles

The stars have aligned, the waters have risen, and the unknowable has made itself known—The Sinking City Remastered is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in a surprise launch that’s as generous as it is unsettling. Existing owners of the original game get the full remaster for free, courtesy of developer Frogwares.

Originally released in 2019, The Sinking City blends open-world detective work with Lovecraftian horror, and this new remaster brings the twisted city of Oakmont into sharper, more terrifying focus with a full Unreal Engine 5 overhaul.

What’s New in The Sinking City Remastered?

Frogwares has rebuilt the game from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, introducing not only a fresh coat of cosmic horror paint but also a host of gameplay and accessibility improvements. Key features include:

  • Full relighting and graphical overhaul in Unreal Engine 5
  • 4K textures, enhanced detail, and improved reflections
  • Added objects and level geometry across locations
  • Photo Mode for capturing the city’s eerie beauty
  • Support for DLSS, FSR, and TSR upscaling
  • General gameplay tuning and new accessibility options

The result is a more immersive, visually rich Oakmont that invites players to dive back into its haunted streets, whether they’re investigating grisly murders or simply trying to maintain their sanity.

A Gift for Fans—and a Glimpse at the Future

“This is our way of giving back,” said Sergiy Oganesyan, Publishing Director at Frogwares. “After everything we’ve been through with the original release, it’s incredibly rewarding to have this moment where we’re in full control of the game’s destiny—and we wanted to share that with our community.”

The remaster was first announced during the wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for The Sinking City 2, which raised over €553,000—a whopping 450% above its original goal. That sequel is now officially in development, but today’s remaster acts as both a celebration of the original and a foundation for what’s to come.

The Sinking City Remastered is available now—and if you already own the game, the Eldritch Gods have decreed you pay nothing at all.
