Atomic Heart 2, the “spiritual successor” to the game that you likely threw on your wishlist and forgot about with each passing sale, was announced at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest today. The announcement trailer was a drastic shift in tone from the first game’s announcement trailer. Let’s take a look.
While the first game’s announcement trailer took a darker tone full of cold war-era themes, Atomic Heart 2’s trailer appears to have taken the wackiness that did appear in the first game and amped it up to eleven. I have to hand it to Mundfish, these guys ARE horny. The first-person action-RPG takes place in an alternate history/universe with a “strong focus on narrative, RPG elements, and player freedom.”
Atomic Heart 2 takes the events that happened in the first game and somewhat reimagines them in an all-new story expanded to a global scale. The sequel will contain a fresh cast of characters, new locations, and a new arsenal of abilities. However, Mundfish promises it’ll have fan-favorite characters, locations, and abilities from the first game. Robert Bagratuni, Founder and CEO of Mundfish AND Game Director of Atomic Heart 2 (jeez) had this to say about the announcement.
Ever since the launch of the original Atomic Heart, we’ve been floored by the unwavering support and enthusiasm of our playerbase. When we set out to create the Atomic Universe, we never imagined that the community would respond with such amazing passion. It’s been hard sitting on this announcement for so long, but today, at Summer Game Fest, we’re incredibly happy to finally and officially announce that Atomic Heart 2 is coming, and it’s bigger and bolder than the original.
Atomic Heart 2 takes place in a retrofuturistic universe where humans revere science and technology and have robots, which is cool. Surprisingly, an era of peace and prosperity, thanks to AI and advanced robotics, has ended in abject chaos. Who could have guessed? With the world on the brink of collapse, it’s up to the player to prevent it.
Atomic Heart 2 Key Features
- Realistic graphics that depict a dystopian, retrofuturistic setting.
- An expanded RPG system that immerses players in a living game world filled with various activities.
- The story continues: a gripping plot with mysteries and high stakes, where beloved characters return and new ones help the world unfold from completely different sides.
- An enhanced, explosive combat system that lets the player use both hands simultaneously, combining glove abilities with a wide array of melee and ranged weapons.
Atomic Heart 2 is currently in development still with no official release date planned but they can confirm they are aiming for both PC and consoles.
