Following its debut during today’s Future Games Show, Herdling—the latest project from FAR: Lone Sails developer Okomotive—just dropped a brand-new trailer and a free demo on Steam. Published by Panic (Untitled Goose Game, Firewatch), Herdling is set to launch this summer for Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
From Lone Vehicles to Loyal Creatures
If you played either of Okomotive’s FAR games, you’ll know the studio’s strength lies in atmospheric, emotionally resonant storytelling. Herdling continues that tradition, but trades vehicles for living companions—namely, a herd of curious goat-deer hybrids called Calicorns.
In the newly released demo, players will take their first steps into this haunting world, leading the Calicorns from the edge of a ruined city toward the shadowy heights of a vast mountain. Expect scenic melancholy, quiet beauty, and the occasional stampede.
A Wordless Journey of Trust and Survival
Herdling follows a nameless shepherd and their herd across a fallen world filled with ancient structures, fog-covered forests, and natural obstacles. The game blends gentle environmental puzzles with movement-based challenges as you protect, guide, and grow attached to your band of beasts.
The game’s narrative is told entirely without words, using visuals and movement to deliver an emotional story about trust, companionship, and survival against the odds.
Calicorns, Puzzles, and the Call of the Summit
Along the way, players must sharpen their herding skills to navigate hazards and overcome environmental challenges. Whether charging through snowy plains or solving terrain-based puzzles, the goal is simple: reach the summit together. But the journey? Anything but.
The Steam demo is available now, with the full release coming in Summer 2025.
