Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown Launches 1.0 on June 18 With Major Upgrades

PlaySide Studios and Zugalu Entertainment have announced that Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown will officially leave Early Access and launch into 1.0 on June 18 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on Steam. First revealed during the Future Games Show, this milestone update brings a host of community-requested features, improvements, and content upgrades to the medieval city-builder with real-time strategy combat and branching narrative choices.

A Kingdom Built on Consequences

Set in the fantasy world of Nysamor, Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown casts players as the sovereign of a struggling kingdom—tasked with rebuilding a civilization while navigating war, political unrest, and mythical threats. Whether ruling alone in single-player or managing a shared empire with up to three other players in multiplayer, your decisions shape the fate of your people.

Every choice matters, from who you ally with to how you deal with unrest. Will you rule with compassion and forge a benevolent legacy, or crush opposition and take what you want as a tyrant? Your approach not only affects the world narratively, but also alters gameplay mechanics and the visual style of your evolving city.

What’s New in 1.0

The 1.0 update of Thrive introduces a wide range of new features and quality-of-life improvements requested by the community since the game’s Early Access debut. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new:

  • Full Steam Achievement Support
  • Narrative Dialogue Toggle (for players wanting a more sandbox-focused experience)
  • Overhauled Visual Fidelity with improved lighting and environment detail
  • New Town Buildings and Structures
  • Expanded Tech Tree and Trade Route Systems
  • Citizen Revolt Mechanics
  • New RTS Militia Units
  • New “Influence” System
  • Difficulty Settings for tailored challenge levels

In addition, the game’s real-time tactical combat now features better balance and responsiveness, letting players lead armies into siege battles, plunder trade convoys, or take on monstrous Waelgrim creatures in large-scale fantasy conflicts.

Features at a Glance

  • Build Your Legacy: Plan your kingdom with intricate road systems, tech advancements, and defensive strategies.
  • Real-Time Combat: Engage in skirmishes and sieges with human or AI players across dynamic battle maps
  • Moral Rule: Decide whether to lead with kindness or fear—each path comes with gameplay tradeoffs and aesthetic consequences.
  • Branching Narrative Across 3 Acts: Choices in the event system can permanently impact citizens, cities, and global diplomacy.
  • Solo, Co-Op or PVP: Experience the full campaign alone or team up (or clash) with friends in up to four-player online play.

“Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown is about more than just building a city—it’s about navigating the burden of power,” says Zugalu Entertainment. “With the 1.0 launch, we’re giving players the tools to truly shape their kingdoms, for better or worse.”
