Kazutaka Kodaka is back with another surreal and mind-bending experience—this time teaming up with DMM GAMES and Tookyo Games to present Shuten Order, a genre-hopping narrative adventure where the story (and gameplay) changes depending on who you accuse. The new Gameplay Intro Trailer dropped this week, showcasing five distinct gameplay systems built around five government ministers, each controlling their own bizarre “ministry” within the game’s dystopian world.
Coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam, Shuten Order promises a fusion of detective drama, visual novel, survival horror, escape room, and even romance sim mechanics, all tied together by a central whodunnit with branching storylines.
Five Game Systems, One Murder Mystery
In Shuten Order, the central narrative revolves around a mysterious murder, and your chosen suspect shapes the genre and direction of your investigation. Here’s a breakdown of the five distinct game modes:
Ministry of Justice: Mystery Adventure
Use the Snapping mechanic to break down suspicious dialogue and environmental clues in a Danganronpa-style investigation. Interview suspects, piece together logic chains, and accuse the killer in dramatic fashion.
Ministry of Health: Extreme Escape Adventure
Think Zero Escape meets Danganronpa. Navigate a creepy 3D maze full of deadly traps, mind games, and puzzles where you might need to betray allies—or cooperate—to survive.
Ministry of Science: Multi-Perspective Visual Novel
Experience the story from multiple character perspectives across a branching flowchart. Multiple timelines and personal agendas make each route a tense guessing game of survival.
Ministry of Education: Romance Adventure (?)
You’ve been poisoned, and three girls each claim to be Honoka Kokushikan—the only person with the antidote. Build relationships, raise Affection stats, and try to confess before time runs out.
Ministry of Security: Stealth Action Horror
Sneak your way through a dangerous 3D map while avoiding the relentless Nephilim. Solve puzzles and deal with environmental hazards—all while a killer stalks the shadows.
The Team Behind the Madness
Led by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka, Shuten Order is a collaboration between DMM GAMES and Tookyo Games, with additional writing from Takumi Nakazawa and Takekuni Kitayama. Simadoriru provides character illustrations, while Masafumi Takada returns for the soundtrack—bringing the same signature sound that helped define Kodaka’s previous works.
Publishing duties will be handled by Spike Chunsoft (Steam and international Switch release).
Shuten Order Release Info
Shuten Order is set to launch on September 5, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with English versions coming to North America and Europe, published by Spike Chunsoft.
