Fans of Heart Machine’s roguelike adventure Hyper Light Breaker got a surprise today during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2025. Publisher Arc Games and developer Heart Machine revealed and immediately launched the game’s first major Early Access update, “Double Down”, available now on Steam.
To celebrate, Hyper Light Breaker is currently 30% off until September 1, and players can also pick up the Hyper Light Bundle, which includes Breaker and Drifter at a discount for a limited time.
Double the Trouble: New Boss & Breaker
The highlight of the Double Down Update is the debut of the game’s first duo boss fight, the deadly twin Crown bosses Bersia and Vesia. Players will face both twins at once, forcing strategic choices about which to take down first, though even after one falls, the battle is far from over.
A new playable Breaker, Gravenheart, also joins the roster. Hailing from the Shattered Fortress, Gravenheart brings a tank-oriented playstyle to the fight, giving co-op squads new tactical options in the Overgrowth.
Sky Labs & New Points of Interest
For explorers, the Sky Labs are now open, floating islands suspended above the Overgrowth that expand the game’s verticality. Previously only a visual curiosity, the islands are now accessible and will evolve further as Early Access continues.
Other new points of interest, along with hidden surprises, have been scattered across the Overgrowth for players to discover.
New Systems: Glitches & Soup Buffs
Players who beat their first run can now unlock the Glitch System, a “new game plus”-style difficulty mode that adds brutal modifiers, from increased enemy damage to more relentless waves. In return, greater rewards await.
There’s also the Soup Master Shop, a noodle bar where players can trade collected ingredients for buffs that carry over into their next run.
More Weapons, Quests & Quality of Life
The update expands the arsenal with the Burst Launcher, Hyper Light Breaker’s first grenade launcher, along with new Mods, Gear Upgrade Machines, and Obelisks. A new Quest system adds structured rewards, while new enemy types raise the stakes in combat. Quality-of-life tweaks round out the package, refining movement, combat flow, and exploration.
Looking Toward 1.0 Launch
With about six months of Early Access development under its belt, Heart Machine plans one more major update this fall before shifting full focus to the game’s 1.0 release in 2026. A detailed roadmap will arrive in September, with the official launch date to be revealed later this year.
