Halloween Game Announced by IllFonic at PlayStation State of Play

Halloween is an institution when it comes to horror franchises; somewhat surprisingly, it’s taken this long to get a game out of it. Rest assured, though, we have a game coming in the franchise, and it’s not coming too soon.

Death returns to Haddonfield in this intense tribute to the iconic John Carpenter’s classic film, now reimagined as an asymmetrical horror sandbox where players fight to survive or kill.

As a Civilian, rescue townsfolk, gather weapons, and call for help before it’s too late. Or become horror itself as Michael Myers, lurking in the shadows and using terrifying powers to strike without warning.

What a novel take on the genre! Actually, it is! While the trailer makes the game look like another Dead by Daylight clone, there’s more going on in this game than they let on. While Michael Myers vs. survivors is nothing new, this press release drops some information that might change your mind.

Death comes to Haddonfield in Halloween, a chilling tribute to the iconic John Carpenter’s classic film. Survive or slay across the tense streets and dark corners of Haddonfield in this asymmetrical horror sandbox, taking on the role of either a desperate Civilian or the infamous Michael Myers himself. In each high-stakes cat-and-mouse match, every decision means life or death.

As a Civilian, protect the townsfolk by guiding them to safety, scavenging for weapons and supplies, and finding a phone to call the police before it’s too late. Danger lurks around every corner, and survival depends on strategy, teamwork, and quick thinking. Meanwhile, Michael Myers stalks the shadows, using terrifying abilities like Shape Jump to move unseen across the map and strike without warning in a heart-pounding experience.

You know what that sounds like to me? That sounds like the NES Halloween game with multiplayer functionality, modern graphics, and gameplay. After balking at the trailer, I’m willing to be very wrong here. This might be an interesting take on the asymmetrical horror style of game. Although I imagine coming in this late to the party might work against them.

Jared Gerritzen, COO of IllFonic, had this to say about the game:

“Our goal is to push the horror experience to the next level with single and multiplayer modes so players can get the most out of the game. Whether they become the boogeyman or fight to protect Michael Myers’ victims, Halloween promises an unforgettable battle of fear and survival.”

Halloween Releases September 2026

Sadly, the release date is just under a year away. But you can bet I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.

IllFonic and co-publisher Gun Interactive are aiming to release Halloween on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on September 8th, 2026. Keep an eye out for ongoing coverage of PlayStation State of Play, horror titles, and Halloween.
