During the Beyond the Strand 10th Anniversary livestream, Hideo Kojima revealed new information about Physint, his next major project at Kojima Productions. Described as a “next-stage tactical espionage action” title, Physint is still in the early conceptual phase, but Kojima outlined his vision, approach to casting, and the advanced technology that will power the experience.
Casting Begins with A-List Talent
While Kojima couldn’t confirm the main character due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, he announced that several high-profile actors have already joined the project. Charlize Theron, Don Lee (Death Stranding 2), and Hunter Schafer were confirmed during the stream, with Kojima promising even more additions to create what he called a “Dune-like all-star cast.” He emphasized that the ensemble is central to Physint’s cinematic approach, reflecting his ongoing commitment to blending Hollywood and interactive storytelling.
Sony Reaffirms Its Partnership with Kojima Productions
The event featured a special message from Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, who congratulated Kojima Productions on its 10th anniversary and reaffirmed Sony’s partnership with Kojima. Hulst praised Kojima’s history of redefining cinematic storytelling across generations of PlayStation hardware and expressed excitement for the creative ambition behind Physint. He called the project a continuation of the boundary-pushing collaboration between PlayStation and Kojima Productions.
Advancing the Technology of Storytelling
Kojima also offered a look at how new technology will shape Physint. Working with 3Lateral, his team is experimenting with next-generation character rendering, particularly in capturing the subtleties of facial animation and skin tones. He showcased early in-engine visuals that demonstrated breakthroughs in realism, noting that Physint will take technology even further than his other upcoming title, OD. Kojima’s goal is to break down the barriers between film and games more than ever before.
A Long Road Ahead, but Kojima Is All In
Though Kojima cautioned that Physint is still far from release, development won’t fully ramp up until work on OD is complete. He described the project as deeply personal. Calling it a game he “cannot die until [he] finish[es],” Kojima made it clear that Physint represents not only the next step for tactical espionage but also a defining milestone for his career.
For now, fans will need patience, but Physint promises to be one of Kojima’s boldest undertakings yet, merging cinematic ambition with cutting-edge technology and a Hollywood-caliber cast.
