Tokyo Underground Killer Launches on Steam With Neon Katana Combat

The wait is over, Tokyo Underground Killer has officially launched on Steam for $9.99, with a 10% launch discount during its first week. Developed by Osaka-based Phoenix Game Productions and published by 3DM Games and Gone Shootin, the game brings a violent, neon-lit cyberpunk Tokyo to life in a first-person slasher packed with style and blood-soaked action.

A free demo is also available, giving players a chance to experience tutorial missions, story-driven combat segments, and key narrative moments before diving into the full release.

A Fever Dream Vision of Tokyo

Tokyo Underground Killer puts players in the role of Kobayashi, the feared “Shinjuku Vampire” hitman armed with his katana, Jubokko. Across 11 story missions based on real Tokyo districts—including Shinjuku, Akihabara, and Shibuya—players will clash with brutal bosses, gang leaders, and supernatural threats.

Between missions, Kobayashi can explore a lively city hub, complete with shops, UFO Catchers, pachinko parlors, and even a customizable apartment.

Blood Skills, Bosses, and Brutal Combat

Combat blends high-speed katana slashing with 10 unique, upgradeable Blood Skills that draw power from defeated enemies. These abilities feed into a fleshed-out ability tree system, giving players new ways to survive encounters against the game’s 10 major bosses and waves of “Flatliner” enemies.

The arsenal expands beyond the katana, featuring strange and deadly tools such as cursed Japanese dolls and shuriken launchers, all of which tie into the game’s relentless pace and violent spectacle.

Storytelling Through Comics and Sound

In addition to its action, Tokyo Underground Killer delivers its story through nearly 100 pages of dynamic hand-drawn comic scenes illustrated by Hans “Heavy Metal Hanzo” Steinbach. The narrative is backed by a dramatic, high-energy soundtrack composed by Andrew Hulshult, known for his work on DOOM Eternal and Dusk.

The game also features full Japanese and English voice acting with over 25 cast members, including Yosuke Iwazaki as Kobayashi and veteran actor Hidekatsu Shibata (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball) as crime boss Ishihara.

Step Into the Neon Nightmare

Studio head Daniel Hedjazi calls the game a “labor of love and passion for many years,” promising a wild ride filled with “brutal gang bosses, vengeful idols, and manipulative cult leaders.” With its mix of fast-paced katana combat, stylized storytelling, and a grimly humorous cyberpunk atmosphere, Tokyo Underground Killer aims to be an unforgettable descent into Tokyo’s underworld.

You can check out the game and its free demo on the Steam store page.
