Publisher HypeTrain Digital and developer Sleepy Castle Studio have announced that Escape from Ever After, a quirky, Paper Mario-inspired RPG, will officially join Steam Next Fest: October 2025 Edition, starting October 13. But fans don’t have to wait until then to play: a brand-new demo is available now, set in the mysterious seaside town of Innsbeak.
This latest demo features completely different content from Escape from Ever After: Onboarding, the standalone prologue released last year that attracted over 10,000 players and earned a 96% Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam. It’s the latest look at what’s coming in the full release, which is set to launch soon on PC and all major consoles.
A Fairytale RPG About Fighting Corporate Greed
Escape from Ever After puts a clever twist on storybook adventures by following fairytale heroes as they take on a greedy megacorporation. The game combines charming 2D visuals reminiscent of Paper Mario with a satirical take on capitalism, office culture, and the power of teamwork. Players will navigate colorful worlds, help coworkers, and take down the profit-hungry Ever After Inc. from within.
The game’s turn-based battle system rewards creativity and experimentation, letting you mix and match character abilities and upgrades. Outside combat, you’ll engage in quirky office banter, decorate your workspace, and uncover sidequests hidden across vibrant storybook landscapes.
A World Bursting with Character
With its jazzy big-band soundtrack, whimsical tone, and “stories within stories” narrative, Escape from Ever After captures the heart of classic Nintendo RPGs while offering something entirely its own. Each new location adds fresh characters, mechanics, and surprises to discover, making Innsbeak the perfect setting to sample what’s ahead.
Players can download the demo now on Steam.
