Publisher Kwalee and developer Flash Cat Games have released a brand-new demo for Talespinner, the upcoming roguelike deckbuilder steeped in Japanese mythology. Available now on Steam, the demo lets players experience the game’s unique blend of narrative-driven deckbuilding and mythic storytelling.
Players can begin their journey as one of several storytellers, guiding their chosen hero through the early chapters of Talespinner’s world. The demo features one playable character, two narrative routes (the Bamboo Forest and the Rice Fields), and four of the game’s eight total biomes. Across these regions, players will encounter over 50 companions, 24 random events, and even two hidden story twists for those looking to uncover every secret.
A Living World of Myth and Mystery
Talespinner drops players into a world shaped by the spirits and legends of Japanese folklore. From haunted villages to lush bamboo forests, each biome offers distinct challenges, events, and encounters with bizarre yokai creatures inspired by ancient myths that can become allies or adversaries depending on player choice.
As players progress, their deck of cards evolves alongside their decisions, weaving a dynamic story where combat and narrative intertwine. Strategic deck-building, branching scenarios, and moral choices all determine how the tale unfolds.
