WayForward Announces Shantae 7 and Sigma Star Saga DX for 2026

WayForward is doubling down on fan excitement this week with two major reveals from Limited Run Games’ LRG3 2025 presentation: the announcement of a brand-new Shantae game and an enhanced modern version of the cult Game Boy Advance gem Sigma Star Saga.

The long-running indie studio confirmed that Shantae 7, the next entry in the beloved half-genie hero franchise, is officially in development. At the same time, Sigma Star Saga DX will bring the unique shoot-’em-up/RPG hybrid to modern platforms in early 2026.

Shantae 7 Officially in Development

Following the success of the previous Shantae release earlier this year, WayForward revealed that the seventh entry in the series is now in active development under the direction of series co-creator Matt Bozon.

Though few details were shared, the teaser artwork unveiled during the showcase featured both Shantae and her longtime nemesis Risky Boots, each sporting new looks including subtle outfit changes and updated hairstyles. While platforms and release windows have not yet been announced, WayForward promised more details at a later date.

Sigma Star Saga DX Takes Flight on Modern Platforms

WayForward also shared a new trailer for Sigma Star Saga DX, giving fans their first look at the upgraded version of the 2005 Game Boy Advance classic. Developed in collaboration with Limited Run Games via the Carbon Engine, this remaster retains the game’s distinct blend of top-down RPG exploration and side-scrolling space shooter combat while adding a host of modern improvements.

The updated version features HD border artwork, an enhanced map, rebalanced progression, improved save options, and over 20,000 weapon combinations to experiment with. Players can expect refined dialogue, reduced encounter rates, and an all-new title song, adding polish while maintaining the game’s retro charm.

Sigma Star Saga DX launches digitally in early 2026 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with physical preorders for Switch and PS5 opening around the same time.
