Funcom has officially unveiled Chapter 3, the next major free update for Dune: Awakening, and it’s shaping up to be the survival MMO’s most ambitious expansion yet. Revealedby the developer, Chapter 3 is focused squarely on one of the community’s most frequent requests: more meaningful endgame progression.
Inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune and Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptations, Dune: Awakening continues to expand its vision of life on Arrakis, with Chapter 3 laying the groundwork for a deeper and more rewarding late-game experience.
A Bigger, Deeper Endgame Experience
At the core of Chapter 3 is a sweeping overhaul aimed at players who have reached Tier 6 and beyond. Funcom has rebuilt major systems from the ground up to provide new progression paths across PvE, group play, and other playstyles.
According to Creative Director Joel Bylos, Chapter 3 focuses on offering players more choice and long-term goals once they reach the upper tiers of play. Central to this effort are a fully reworked Landsraad system, expanded Faction Ranks, and an all-new Specialization system, giving players more control over how they develop their characters in the late game.
The update also adds new overland locations, fresh mission content, and repeatable Testing Stations that feature escalating difficulty and enhanced rewards, encouraging players to push their limits well after completing the main progression curve.
Combat Improvements and New Weapons
Chapter 3 also sharpens the game’s combat. Several improvements have been made alongside the introduction of new weapons, including Dual Blades, the explosive Pyrocket, and a full rework of the Rapier, giving melee-focused players new tactical options.
For story-focused players, Chapter 3 continues the narrative directly from where Chapter 2 ended, delivering hours of additional story-driven survival gameplay that further explores the dangers and politics of Arrakis.
Raiders of the Broken Lands DLC Adds Massive Building Options
Launching alongside the free update is Raiders of the Broken Lands, a paid DLC included at no additional cost for Season Pass owners. This DLC answers another major player request: more building variety.
Raiders of the Broken Lands introduces 73 new building pieces and 17 decorations, all inspired by the Imperium’s Smugglers. Players will also gain access to a themed stillsuit set, light and heavy armor, new weapon variants, cosmetic swatches, and emotes, significantly expanding customization and base-building possibilities.
Discounted on Steam Ahead of Chapter 3
To celebrate the upcoming update, Dune: Awakening is currently available at a 35% discount as part of the Steam Winter Sale, the deepest discount the game has received since launch. It’s an ideal entry point for new players looking to prepare for Chapter 3’s arrival.
Chapter 3 will be available for free, while Raiders of the Broken Lands can be purchased for $9.99 or as part of the Season Pass ($24.99).
