Sad Cat Studios and Thunderful have officially locked in a release date for their long-awaited retro-futuristic action platformer REPLACED. The cinematic cyberpunk thriller will finally launch on March 12th, 2026 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, accompanied by a striking new trailer that offers another glimpse into its neon-drenched world.
A Cyberpunk Thriller Through the Eyes of an AI
Set in an alternate 1980s America transformed by nuclear catastrophe, REPLACED follows R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence unwillingly trapped in a human body. This unique perspective puts players at odds with the oppressive Phoenix Corporation an omnipresent power that treats human lives as commodities and enforces its rule across Phoenix-City.
As R.E.A.C.H., players unravel the Corporation’s hidden intentions, uncovering the truth behind their creation while navigating a society built on exploitation, corruption, and survival.
Cinematic 2.5D Action and Atmospheric Exploration
REPLACED blends hand-crafted pixel art with modern lighting and visual effects to create a gritty yet stylish cyberpunk aesthetic. Its world spans decaying districts, industrial wastelands, and neon-lit streets each brought to life through detailed environmental storytelling.
The game’s platforming emphasizes fluidity, allowing players to run, climb, vault, and push through each area with momentum. Combat is fast and rhythmic, encouraging players to chain:
- precise melee strikes
- responsive counters
- high-impact ranged attacks
Every encounter feels cinematic, with camera movements and choreography amplifying the intensity.
A Story About Humanity, Identity, and Control
Beyond its action, REPLACED explores themes of belonging, autonomy, and what it means to be human in a world where identity can be owned or stolen. Players meet morally complex characters whose choices blur the line between resistance and self-preservation, all set to a moody synth-driven soundtrack that deepens the game’s retro-futuristic tone.
Game Director Yura Zhdanovich acknowledged the game’s long development cycle, stating:
“It’s no secret that it’s taken longer for us to get here than we initially thought and we want to thank everyone for your continued patience and support. We’re looking forward to making it worth your while on March 12th!”
Coming March 12th
REPLACED launches March 12th, 2026 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. With its cinematic action, haunting cyberpunk world, and AI-driven narrative hook, it’s shaping up to be one of next year’s most striking indie releases.
