Surfpunk Public Demo Launches December 16 on Steam

Montreal-based developer Double Stallion has announced that Surfpunk will receive its first public demo on Tuesday, December 16 at 3:00 PM EST, giving players their first hands-on taste of the game’s high-speed, island-hopping action. The demo will be available on Steam and arrives ahead of Surfpunk’s planned Early Access launch next year.

To celebrate the demo’s release, the development team will also host a live Q&A stream on Discord on December 17 at 1:00 PM EST, playing through the demo and answering questions directly from the community.

Surf ’n Slash Through a Post-Cataclysmic Archipelago

Surfpunk is a co-op-focused action RPG built around fast-paced PvE combat, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Players take on the role of Raiders, a band of free-spirited surfer-pirates exploring The Fallen World, a tropical archipelago reshaped by catastrophe and overrun by monstrous Sumi swarms.

Using high-speed Rushboards, Raiders surf between islands, scavenge for loot, and battle escalating enemy threats while racing against time and the ever-looming threat of a massive tsunami.

What’s Included in the Public Demo

The Surfpunk demo offers a surprisingly robust slice of the full experience, featuring 1–4 player online co-op and roughly 5 hours of core content, with up to 10 hours for players who explore all difficulty levels and unlockables.

The demo includes:

  • Island-hopping missions are playable solo or in co-op
  • Four unique weapon classes
  • Four mission difficulty tiers
  • The first weather modifier: Storm
  • One game mode, NPC quests, and character customization
  • Early access to weapon skill unlocks
  • Yes, you can pet Bingus, the lovable seadog

Four Distinct Weapon Classes

Players can experiment with four radically different weapon styles, each filling a unique role in combat and traversal:

  • Sword – Fast melee combat with double dashes and heavy-hitting strikes
  • Pistols – Rapid-fire ranged weapons with explosive attacks and vertical mobility
  • Anchor – A heavy, stance-switching weapon that can also pull teammates up cliffs
  • Guitar – A support-focused weapon featuring timing-based buffs, AOE attacks, and speed boosts for allies

Craft, Escape, or Wipe Out

Surfpunk emphasizes improvisation through its craft-on-the-go system. Players can harvest resources mid-run to build gadgets like ladders, explosives, and makeshift boards, opening new routes or creating last-second escape plans.

As loot piles up, enemy waves intensify. When the islands begin to shake, and the water rises, it’s time to escape surfing a colossal tsunami back to safety with your loot barge intact, if you’re skilled (and lucky) enough.

Between runs, players return to the Beastship, their floating home base, to upgrade gear, craft new weapons, customize characters, pick up side quests, or hang out before the next ride.

Surfpunk’s public demo goes live on December 16 on Steam, offering an early look at its stylish blend of co-op action, surfing traversal, and roguelite-inspired progression.
