Monster Train 2 is receiving its biggest content update yet with Destiny of the Railforged, the game’s first paid DLC, launching February 2 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $9.99. Developer Shiny Shoe and Big Fan, a Devolver Digital publishing label, revealed the expansion alongside a new trailer. A Nintendo Switch release will follow shortly after.
Soul Savior Mode Introduces a New Core Structure
The headline addition in Destiny of the Railforged is Soul Savior, a brand-new game mode built around a fresh progression structure. Players face the Lifemother and her corrupted offspring, choosing the order in which to battle new bosses. Each victory inflicts lingering curses, but also unlocks stronger rewards, creating a risk-reward loop that reshapes how runs unfold.
Souls wrested from defeated bosses can be equipped directly onto cards, granting powerful effects that dramatically alter deck-building strategies. As more Souls are unlocked, players advance new layers of meta progression, offering long-term depth that sits alongside Monster Train 2’s existing systems rather than replacing them.
New Bosses and Enemies Expand the Cosmic Setting
Soul Savior introduces a new cosmic-themed setting filled with new enemy types. These new threats fight alongside familiar foes, pushing players to adapt their builds and positioning to survive increasingly punishing encounters as the mode progresses.
The Railforged Clan Becomes Fully Playable
For the first time in the series, the Railforged Clan is joining Monster Train 2 as a fully playable faction, available across all game modes and existing content. The clan represents the legendary builders of the trains themselves and arrives with two new playable champions.
Herzal is a master blacksmith responsible for crafting the Rail and the Boneshaker train, while Heph brings raw power as a hammer-wielding force behind the Covenant Outpost and Skullcrusher engine. Together, they introduce new mechanical identities and strategies rooted in the franchise’s industrial heritage.
Wurmkin Clan Returns Free for All Players
Alongside the paid DLC, Shiny Shoe is also adding the Wurmkin Clan to Monster Train 2 as a free update on February 2. Originally introduced in the first Monster Train, the clan has been fully reworked to better align with Monster Train 2’s design. Known for wide-reaching buffs and spell-focused gameplay, the Wurmkin return as a refined but familiar option for veteran players.
Continued Post-Launch Support
Destiny of the Railforged follows a steady run of free updates that have expanded Monster Train 2 since launch. With a new mode, major progression changes, a playable clan, and additional bosses, this DLC represents the most substantial post-launch expansion the game has received so far.
