Ratcheteer DX Demo Now Available on Steam Ahead of March 5 Release

Ratcheteer DX is getting a public demo today on Steam, giving you an early hands-on look ahead of its full launch on March 5, 2026. Developer Shaun Inman and publisher Panic confirmed the release date alongside a new trailer, with the pixel art action-adventure heading to Nintendo Switch, Steam for PC and Mac, and the Mac App Store.

Progress from the demo carries over to the full game.

A Classic-Style Adventure, Rebuilt in Color

Ratcheteer DX puts you in the boots of a young apprentice mechanic living underground after humanity is forced into hibernation by a deadly, unending winter. What starts as a simple errand to retrieve your mentor’s wrench quickly turns into a larger journey through caverns, frozen ruins, and strange regions both above and below the ice.

Originally released as part of Playdate Season One in 2022, Ratcheteer DX is a fully updated edition. The game now runs in full color, adds multiple visual filter options, supports ten languages, and features a CD-quality stereo soundtrack.

Tools, Exploration, and Boss Fights

Exploration sits at the core of Ratcheteer DX. Over the course of the game, you unlock eight tools that double as traversal and combat options. Early on, you rely on basics like the Crank Lantern and Wrench Sword. Later, you’ll drill, glide, dash, stomp, and chain movement abilities to reach new areas and hidden paths.

The game spans more than 250 rooms across six regions and six dungeons, with six main bosses to overcome. There’s also a secret boss rush time trial for players looking for an extra challenge.

A full playthrough takes roughly four to five hours.

Visual Filters and Soundtrack Options

Ratcheteer DX lets you tailor its look with multiple display modes. You can play in full color, Pea Soup green, Playdate gray, or high-contrast black-and-white, with optional scanline, grid, and dot overlays.

The soundtrack, composed by Matthew Grimm, delivers classic 8-bit style music with upgraded stereo audio, giving the game a retro feel without sacrificing clarity.
