The Killing Stone now has a release date. Question, the studio behind The Blackout Club and The Magic Circle, confirmed that its occult horror deckbuilder launches on February 18, 2026, for PC via Steam. A free demo is available now.
A New Horror Project From Question
Developed by Question, The Killing Stone leans hard into atmosphere and tension. The studio describes the game as a first-person card battler built around ritual combat, demons, and permanent consequences. You play as the Maven, drawn into a battle for souls while trying to save a cursed family from a dark inheritance.
The game is set in the 17th century in a remote Arctic region, with a strong focus on mood through sound design, voice work, and tactile presentation.
A Card Battler Framed as a Ritual
At the center of The Killing Stone is a ceremonial game board built around the Fanghella, also known as the Killing Stone. Cards appear as physical figurines and objects placed onto a 3D board, complete with animated effects and environmental detail.
Combat revolves around a unique Reserve system that lets you stack creatures and buff incantations above the battle line for later use. Decisions around placement, spell timing, and bargaining directly affect your deck, often in permanent ways that carry through the rest of the game.
Story, Contracts, and Consequences
The narrative follows the mystery of Mariken Svangård’s life and death. As the Maven, you investigate family members and animal familiars, piecing together the truth while negotiating ritual contracts with demons.
Each contract is signed in blood and resolved through ritual combat. The results introduce lasting banes or boons that persist until the final reckoning, pushing you to think long-term rather than round to round.
Dual-Language Narrative and Voice Cast
One of The Killing Stone’s standout features is its dual-language storytelling system. The full narrative can be experienced in either authentic 17th-century English or modern prose, with separate text and voice options.
Voice performances from Emma Gregory (Baldur’s Gate 3) and Liam O’Brien (Critical Role) add weight to the game’s darker moments.
Release Date and Demo Details
The Killing Stone launches on February 18, 2026, exclusively on Steam for PC. A free demo is available now, giving players an early look at the game’s ritual-based combat and tone ahead of release.
