During today’s Sony Interactive Entertainment State of Play presentation, Japanese developer Game Freak, in partnership with publisher Fictions, announced that its upcoming action RPG Beast of Reincarnation will launch on August 4, 2026.
The game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass for console and Windows. Physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will also be available at launch.
A Journey Through Post-Apocalyptic Japan
A new cinematic gameplay trailer accompanied the announcement, highlighting the game’s striking visuals, environmental storytelling, and high-intensity combat. Set in the year 4026 AD, Beast of Reincarnation takes place in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Japan, where a parasitic force known as the Blight has corrupted the land and transformed living creatures into monstrous beings called Malefacts.
Players follow Emma, a survivor ostracized as “blightborn,” and her loyal dog companion Koo—himself a Malefact who has retained his soul. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to hunt down powerful bosses known as Nushi and ultimately confront the Beast of Reincarnation, the primordial origin of the world’s corruption.
One Person, One Dog, Two Combat Styles
Beast of Reincarnation blends real-time action combat with strategic elements through its dual-protagonist system. Emma handles fast-paced, direct combat encounters, while Koo introduces turn-based tactical elements that complement her fighting style. As players defeat enemies, the duo unlocks new abilities and combat techniques, allowing their playstyle to evolve throughout the journey.
The world itself is as much an adversary as the creatures within it. Blighted Forests and shifting environments create an ever-changing, ominous landscape that reinforces the game’s themes of decay, resilience, and survival.
Beast of Reincarnation is available to wishlist now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam ahead of its August 4 launch.
