In a surprising move, Konami took to this evening’s PlayStation State of Play showcase to reveal Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse — a brand new 2.5D Castlevania title.
The trailer for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse shows off the setting of 15th-century Paris, as well as the 2.5D side-scrolling gameplay that players will be able to expect. The game is planned to release in 2026 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and will feature “a new cast of characters and expansive locations.” It’s being developed in partnership with Evil Empire studios and Motion Twin.
“Over two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and the recent animated show, it is in the streets of 15th century Paris that a new chapter of the legendary House Belmont is about to be written in bloody red ink,” reads the official synopsis. “Armed with a legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor — and the game’s protagonist — must descend into the city attacked by monstrous creatures and a looming mystical castle to hunt down the beasts and save the Parisians from eternal darkness”

What was the last new Castlevania game before Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse?
It’s actually been over a decade since the last all-new Castlevania game, with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 coming out all the way back in 2014. It’s been even longer since we had a 2D/2.5D installment, with 2013’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate being the last. Since then, there have been several seasons of Netflix’s Castlevania series, numerous collections of older titles from across the series’ history, and crossovers/collaborations with games like Dead Cells and Vampire Survivors.
