Assemble Entertainment and Norwegian indie studio Lugn Games have announced Kioku: Last Summer, a cozy, story-driven adventure heading to PC via Steam in 2026. A free demo is available now, inviting players to experience a nostalgic summer filled with friendship, exploration, and mystery.
Blending colorful visuals with heartfelt storytelling, Kioku: Last Summer draws inspiration from classic childhood adventures while carving out its own magical identity.
A Summer of Friendship and Discovery
Players step into the role of Asti, a lively newcomer who moves to the secluded island of Kioku with her father. As she begins her new life, Asti quickly makes friends, though one boy, Bo, keeps his distance. Over the course of the summer, relationships evolve through shared adventures, laughter, tension, and personal growth.
The narrative unfolds day by day, with quest progression unlocking new areas, characters, and activities. Each in-game day brings surprises, hidden mysteries, and opportunities to help island residents with personal challenges, making Kioku feel dynamic and alive throughout Asti’s unforgettable summer.
Mini-Games and Collectibles
Kioku: Last Summer features collectible-driven mini-games that encourage players to explore every corner of the island.
Marubi is a marble-based battle mini-game inspired by early-2000s toy trends like Beyblade and monster-collecting series. Each Marubi marble represents a unique creature with distinct stats and attributes, adding strategy and customization to the experience.
Crab Fishing offers a more relaxing activity, letting players collect a variety of crabs, some rarer than others. Occasionally, players may reel in a coveted Crab Pot, which can be traded with a local fisherman for special items that aid progression.
Explore the Island of Kioku
Located just 45 minutes by ferry from the mainland, Kioku blends Scandinavian and Japanese cultural influences into a picturesque island setting. From bustling town streets and quiet forest groves to towering Mt. Tin and a mysterious shrine steeped in whispers of the past, each location offers secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Players can wander at their own pace, dashing along winding paths, exploring sparkling streams, and discovering hidden corners filled with charm and surprise. Whether visiting Jodd’s Apple Farm, crossing the waters to Murt’s Island, or uncovering curiosities at the local school, every step could lead to magic or mischief.
Kioku: Last Summer is set to launch on Steam in 2026, with a playable demo available now for those eager to relive a summer that feels like it never ends.
