Bungie has released a brand-new Developer Insights video highlighting the music behind its upcoming PvPvE extraction shooter, Marathon. The video offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the game’s soundtrack was crafted, blending contemporary electronic elements with live instrumentation to shape the atmosphere of the sci-fi world.
The developer commentary dives into the creative process behind the game’s soundscape and how the music supports the game’s tense survival gameplay. According to Bungie, the soundtrack aims to mirror the game’s extraction-based structure and its unpredictable, high-stakes nature.
First Marathon Soundtrack Tracks Now Streaming
Alongside the Developer Insights video, Bungie also released the Marathon (Original Soundtrack EP) across major streaming platforms. The preview EP includes four tracks that give players an early taste of the game’s electronic-forward score.
The currently available tracks include:
- Rhythm of Writhing Constellations
- Focused Erasures and Sub-Routine Resets
- We Stole a Moon
- Code Race [Extended]
The full original soundtrack and score will be released across streaming services starting March 6.
Marathon’s Server Slam Preview Event
Players also recently had the opportunity to experience the game ahead of launch during the open Server Slam preview event. The limited-time test allowed players worldwide to jump into the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam between February 26 and March 2.
The preview gave players a first look at the game’s core PvPvE extraction gameplay while also offering rewards tied to participation in the event.
About Marathon
Set on the lost colony world of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon places players in the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners. These Runners scavenge the dangerous environment for valuable resources while competing against rival players, hostile security forces, and unpredictable planetary hazards.
The game supports both cross-play and cross-save across all platforms, allowing players to squad up and carry progress between systems.
Marathon is available in Standard and Deluxe editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
