Shueisha Games has released a free demo for Schrodinger’s Call, a narrative-driven adventure centered on human connection, loss, and the power of conversation. Available now on Steam, the demo includes the complete first chapter of the game and will also be featured during Steam Next Fest, running from February 24 through March 3.
The demo offers players an extended introduction to the game’s emotional core, with progress carrying over to the full release as long as the chapter is completed.
A Story Told in the Final Moments Before the End
In Schrodinger’s Call, players step into the role of Mary, a young woman who awakens in an unfamiliar room with no memories of her past. She soon discovers her purpose: to serve as humanity’s final conversational companion during the 21 nanoseconds between life and death, as the moon falls and the world comes to an end.
Through a single telephone, Mary listens to wandering souls as they share their life stories, regrets, and unspoken thoughts. Each conversation becomes a quiet act of salvation, helping these souls process what they left behind and what they wish they had said before it was too late.
Exploring Regret, Memory, and Human Connection
Each chapter of Schrodinger’s Call focuses on a different “lingering regret,” from unnoticed love to words left unsaid and people never seen again. As Mary records these final confessions in her notebook, both she and the player begin to uncover deeper truths about connection, memory, and what truly matters at the end of life.
The developers frame the experience as a gentle yet emotionally resonant journey, guided by the central question: “Who would you want to talk to if the world was ending?”
Painterly Visuals and Theatrical Presentation
Visually, Schrodinger’s Call unfolds like a living picture book. Painterly illustrations, striking color choices, and a theatrical presentation style combine to create an experience that feels intimate and contemplative rather than bombastic. Shueisha Games describes the tone as “being wrapped in gentleness,” reinforcing the game’s focus on empathy and quiet reflection.
To celebrate the demo’s release, a new trailer has also been published, highlighting the game’s distinctive art direction and emotional storytelling.
