Shadowstone Revealed as Dreamhaven’s New 1–4 Player Tactics Roguelite

Dreamhaven and developer Secret Door have officially revealed Shadowstone, a new 1–4 player tactics roguelite set in the shadowstone-infested ruins of the Sunderlands. The run-based strategy experience challenges players to command a party of heroes as they fight to escape monster-filled ruins and save a corrupted realm from dark magic.

Shadowstone is slated to launch into Steam Early Access in 2026 for $14.99, and is now available to wishlist on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Tactical Roguelite Combat, Solo or Co-op

Designed for both solo play and online cooperative multiplayer, Shadowstone places players in control of up to four heroes per run. Each attempt begins deep within the ruins, where players must adapt to an ever-changing gauntlet of procedurally generated rooms, enemy encounters, and battlefield hazards.

Success depends on mastering turn-based tactical combat, carefully positioning heroes, and making the most of each character’s unique abilities. Whether duplicating items with the Witch or charging enemies into environmental hazards as the Berserker, every decision can mean the difference between escape and annihilation.

A Standalone Adventure in the Sunderfolk Universe

Shadowstone is set in the Sunderlands, the fantastical animal-filled world introduced in Secret Door’s Sunderfolk. While it shares the same universe, Shadowstone is a standalone experience that requires no prior knowledge of Sunderfolk’s campaign.

Fans will recognize returning heroes such as the hulking Berserker and the unpredictable Pyromancer, while new characters, including the mystical Witch, expand the roster. Each hero brings distinct mechanics that encourage experimentation and synergy-building across runs.

Strategy Through Synergy and Adaptation

Every run in Shadowstone offers new strategic possibilities through a constantly evolving pool of skill cards, equipment, and power-ups. Players are encouraged to build powerful party compositions by upgrading complementary abilities and chaining multi-hero combinations to overwhelm enemies.

With randomized layouts and escalating challenges, no two runs play the same, pushing players to adapt their tactics on the fly while managing limited resources and increasingly dangerous encounters.

Developer Vision for Shadowstone

“Shadowstone is a natural next step for our team after Sunderfolk,” said Chris Sigaty, studio head of Secret Door. “Inspired by some of our favorite roguelikes, the world and characters of the Sunderlands are back, but in a more dangerous, more challenging, and even more engaging strategic experience.”

Dreamhaven CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime echoed that sentiment, noting that Shadowstone continues the studio’s mission to create games that bring players together, whether tackling the challenge solo or in a group.

Sunderfolk 2.0 Update Launches March 10

Alongside the Shadowstone reveal, Dreamhaven and Secret Door announced that the free Sunderfolk 2.0 update will arrive on March 10, 2026, launching across existing platforms and the Epic Games Store.

The update introduces two of the most requested PC features: mouse and keyboard controls, and online multiplayer, while maintaining phone controller support for couch co-op. It also expands the game’s content with a new tank-style hero, the Vanguard, and two new mission sets delivered through One Shot Mode.

With Shadowstone on the horizon and Sunderfolk receiving a substantial update, Secret Door’s Sunderlands universe is set to grow in new and dangerous directions throughout 2026.
