Sunken Sky Steam Next Fest Demo Lets Players Explore Anime Search Action

Developer Codenightly has announced that its upcoming anime-inspired search action, Sunken Sky, is participating in February’s Steam Next Fest with a playable demo. From February 23 through March 2, players can dive into the game’s semi-open world, swapping between three distinct heroines as they uncover the secrets of a fractured kingdom.

The limited-time demo offers an early look at Sunken Sky’s interconnected world design, blending exploration, combat, and character-driven storytelling in a vibrant hand-drawn setting.

Three Heroines, One Interconnected World

Set in a kingdom shaped by prolonged conflict, Sunken Sky follows three unlikely heroes: a nameless girl eager to explore beyond her limits, a survivor burdened by guilt, and a noble determined to prove their worth. Each heroine brings unique abilities and personal motivations that influence how players navigate the world, uncover hidden paths, and approach combat encounters.

The game combines the exploration-driven structure of Ori and the Blind Forest with the atmospheric tone of Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, while carving out its own identity through hundreds of detailed, hand-drawn illustrations. Every frame reflects an anime-inspired aesthetic, bringing personality and warmth to the expansive environments.

Accessible Yet Challenging Adventure

Designed to welcome newcomers without sacrificing depth, Sunken Sky blends classic search action progression with JRPG-inspired storytelling. Players will traverse hazardous mountains, enchanted forests, and labyrinthine landscapes filled with secrets and hidden treasures.

Combat encounters range from smaller enemies to demanding boss battles that test mastery of each heroine’s abilities. Beyond the main quest, playful minigames, including cooking challenges and aerial flight segments, offer lighter diversions that enhance the world’s charm and character.

According to Marcin Szmacinski, programmer and game designer at Codenightly, the team’s goal was to create a world filled with personality while ensuring the adventure remains approachable for new players and rewarding for genre veterans alike.
