Developer Krams Design and publisher DANGEN Entertainment have officially announced The Big Hollow: 1982, a dark, tightly focused investigative thriller coming to PC later in 2026. A free demo is available now on both Steam and GOG, allowing players to begin the case immediately.
Designed as a complete, self-contained 2 to 3 hour experience, The Big Hollow: 1982 places players in the role of an aspiring FBI profiler navigating a chilling murder investigation in the early days of behavioral science. Rather than sprawling exploration or excessive dialogue, the game centers on psychological deduction, grounded crime scene analysis, and cinematic storytelling.
A Grounded Psychological Investigation
Set in 1982 in a tight-knit truck stop community in the American South, the game explores the disappearances of Ida and Bonnie, a case riddled with contradictions, fragments of truth, and unsettling silences. At a time when the term “serial killer” was still new within the FBI, the investigation became more than a hunt for a suspect. It becomes a test of whether emerging profiling methods can truly map the minds of violent offenders.
Players assume the role of Desmond, a methodical and intuitive agent learning the art of criminal profiling under Lenore Davidson, a cold and exacting representative of the Behavioral Science Unit. As evidence unfolds, players must interpret not only what happened, but why. Each conclusion shapes Lenore’s perception of Desmond’s potential and influences the direction of the case.
Deduction Over Distraction
The Big Hollow: 1982 draws inspiration from the analytical structure of The Case of the Golden Idol and the psychological tension of The Silence of the Lambs, combining methodical puzzle-solving with atmospheric storytelling. The experience emphasizes careful observation and behavioral interpretation over hand-holding or filler content.
The game’s distinct 2D animated art style presents a gritty, intimate setting where every detail matters. Evidence builds gradually, adding complexity as players connect clues, examine crime scenes, and interpret suspect behavior through procedures inspired by real FBI procedures.
Rather than presenting a single rigid solution path, the game encourages players to form their own interpretations. Your conclusions may prove the Behavioral Science Unit’s promise or expose its flaws.
Demo Available Now
Ahead of its full PC launch later in 2026, players can download a free demo on Steam and GOG to experience the opening stages of the investigation. The demo offers a hands-on look at the game’s grounded approach to profiling, atmospheric storytelling, and carefully paced deduction mechanics.
The Big Hollow: 1982 invites players to find meaning in the smallest details, interpret human behavior, and prove their worth to the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit in a dark, cinematic murder mystery set against the uneasy backdrop of the 1980s.
