Hibikai Games and Future Friends Games have announced Rural Cat Trails, a laid-back adventure game where players explore the Japanese countryside as a cat.
The game was revealed during the Cozy Games Awards Showcase and is planned for Steam in late 2026.
Explore Rural Japan as a Cat
Rural Cat Trails takes place in Nanoha Town during cherry blossom season. Players control a house cat traveling toward Sakurana Shrine, a place important to their late Grandpa.
The game mixes 2D pixel art characters with 3D environments, creating a soft, nostalgic take on rural Japan.
Cat Movement and Small Favors
Players can use cat abilities like wall jumping, digging, paw swatting, squeezing through tight gaps, and the Wiggle Butt Dash to explore the town.
Cat food cans can be collected to boost stamina, extend dashes, and chain wall jumps. Players can also meet townsfolk and complete small favors for rewards.

Rural Cat Trails is being developed by Hibikai Games, a Japanese husband-and-wife indie team based in Tokyo. Future Friends Games will publish the game.
